Jeff Lieberman’s passion for sports ironically began at the age of five when his parents took him to see the movieBorn Free.; he loved the lion Elsa and her cubs. It was at that time that he had also taken a liking to baseball. “When I learned that there was a team called the Cubs, it did not matter that I lived in Western Connecticut; I became a Chicago Cub fan for life,” Mr. Lieberman shared.
“Athletics have been at the core of being since that early affiliation. I also loved basketball and through a lot of work, I reached the level of being a junior varsity player at Brookfield High School (CT.) In college, I became the athletic chairman of my fraternity. I played basketball and softball for Alpha Epsilon Pi at the University of Cincinnati. I was a three time semi-finalist in table tennis and the free throw shooting champion in 1983,” added Lieberman.
Mr. Lieberman’s coaching career began at Girard College in 1990 as the Boys Middle School Basketball Coach. He was also the first Girls Soccer and Softball Coach at the school. In 1992, Mr. Lieberman moved to Abington Friends School where he served as Boys Assistant Basketball Coach as well as coaching Girls Softball and Tennis. In 1995, he became the Boys Assistant Coach at Germantown Friends School.
Mr. Lieberman has coached a number of teams at Baldwin including the Varsity Basketball team and the Middle School Soccer and Softball teams. He says that he has worked with remarkable athletes and that his greatest joy besides spending time with his wife Tamara and his two-year old daughter Shula is watching Baldwin sporting events. “I have season tickets to every sport. And I still love the Cubbies!”
