Elsie Pitochelli has been a Physical Education teacher at Baldwin since 1998. She is a graduate of the Shipley School, Bryn Mawr, PA and the University of Denver, Denver, CO. At Shipley, Ms. Pitochelli earned thirteen varsity letters and received the White Blazer honoring the top female athlete.
Prior to Baldwin, she taught and coached Varsity Tennis, Varsity Softball, Middle School Field Hockey, Middle School Coed Squash, Middle School Lacrosse and Boys Junior Varsity Squash at the Shipley School. She also taught at The Lancaster Country Day School and coached the Girls and Boys Varsity Tennis teams to five League Championships in six years. Ms. Pitochelli also established a Middle School Tennis Program for boys and girls and began an after-school enrichment program for grades 2-6.
In 1999, Ms. Pitochelli was appointed Varsity Tennis Coach at the Baldwin School and continued through 2005 accumulating an overall record of 63-32 and 34-20 in the InterAc league. She was the InterAc League coordinator for seven years and was instrumental in establishing the Annual InterAc post-season tournament.
Ms. Pitochelli has played tennis all her life, competitively since age 10 and earning five varsity letters at Shipley. She also worked for many years for the Tennis Farm Inc., located in Wayne PA. Although she elected to play Field Hockey at the University of Denver, she ran an adult tennis clinic in the evenings. Her grandfather, Tomas J. Mangan is a member of the Tennis Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C. In 1990 her family was awarded the United States Tennis Association Family of the Year Award. She and her mother Barbara Pitocchelli were also ranked in the Middle States Mother-Daughter Division for several years. In 1996 as a player, her team won the Central Pennsylvania Division and went on to Princeton NJ to play in the Sectional Championships. During the summer she was the assistant pro at the Nassau Country Club on Long Island where she conducted clinics for juniors, adults, gave private lessons, helped coach the Junior Inter-Club Team, and was in charge of the tennis segment of their All Sports Camp.
While at Baldwin, Ms. Pitochelli has also coached Middle School Lacrosse and JV Lacrosse for three years; she traveled with the team to Disney World for spring training. She was also the Junior Varsity Tennis Coach at the Haverford School.
Currently, Elsie is an Upper School Advisor and teaches Physical Education in the Lower, Middle and Upper School. She coaches Middle School Tennis and Middle School Basketball.
