Alexandra Wake ’05, a gentle, talented 14 year old student was murdered in
a horrific act of domestic violence that took not only Alex’s life, but that of
her mother and grandparents on Jan. 15, 2002.
Alex was an exceptional
student whose dynamic personality and motivation to excel propelled her to the
apex of achievement at Baldwin. Her contributions to our community as a
scholar, athlete and friend were tremendous. She was the epitome of a
hard-working, intellectual Baldwin Girl. Alex was a member of the cross country
and track teams at Baldwin. For this reason we have chosen running as a medium
to celebrate her life.
Monies raised will go towards the perpetual scholarship that bears her
name. The event not only raises money for financial aid, but also awareness of
domestic violence in our community of learners.
The event is a road race that will begin and end on Baldwin’s campus; a 1
mile walking course is also available this year. The roads on the route will be
closed to traffic and monitored by the Lower Merion Police Department, insuring
the safety of our participants.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Athletic
Facility and the race will start at 9 a.m. You may pre-register online at www.runtheday.com or the day of the
race. T-shirt sponsorships are available
through Friday, April 9. We hope
you will consider this special opportunity. Information is available in the download section of the
website. Other event information is also available on the Baldwin website and Facebook
fan page (www.facebook.com/baldwinschool).
