Four Baldwin Upper School students have been recognized recently for their outstanding work by the Philadelphia Young Playwrights Festival. Winning prizes in the 2009 Young Playwrights Festival were seniors, (in photo, left to right) Caroline Durlacher, Jessica Cook and Erin O’Donnell. Cook and O’Donnell took second place awards for their plays, A Nursery and Under the Tracks, respectively. Durlacher won a third place award for her work, Knowing. Nearly 1,000 students in the Philadelphia region submitted their plays in the 2009 competition.

Baldwin junior Kelsey Veno was one of 16 winners in the Philadelphia Young Playwrights’ 2010 Young Voices High School Monologue Festival. Her winning monologue, “Colorful,” was among those performed by professional actors Feb. 3-6 as part of the Festival at the Adrienne Theatre Mainstage, home of the InterAct Theatre Company in Philadelphia. This year the Festival received a record-breaking 411 monologue entries from students across the region.

Baldwin’s First through Third Grade Chorus made it to the semifinals of the B101 Christmas Idol Contest in December 2009. Congratulations to our talented little singers their teacher, Angela Bensinger, and Music Department Chair Cathie Schulte.
