Summer Reading

Visit our Summer Reading page for a suggested summer reading list as well as helpful links to your local library (including links to free audio-book downloads!)

The Lower School Library was so pleased to welcome children's author Lisa Graff to speak to our Grade IV students, on February 25th. Ms. Graff is the author of the popular books A Tangle of Knots, Double Dog Dare, Umbrella Summer, and The Thing about Georgie. She spoke with our girls about her work and about her very interesting childhood, including being very shy, her favorite pink parachute pants, what it was like to grow up as the younger sister of a (true!) genius, and more! The girls were surprised to hear Ms. Graff point back to her childhood eavesdropping skills as the reason for her ability to write realistic dialogue in her stories. The exciting event wrapped up with a cupcake party, a perfect way to celebrate Cady, the main character of A Tangle of Knots, who loves to bake.

We were thrilled that the New York Times Best-selling illustrator of the fabulous Fancy Nancy books, Robin Glasser, visited for a very special assembly on Monday, November 25.

Robin’s latest book, Nancy Clancy Sees the Future, follows Secret Admirer and Super Sleuth in the Nancy Clancy chapter book series. Robin was chosen by young people to be the 2013 Illustrator of the Year in the 6th Annual Children’s Choice Book Awards sponsored by The Children’s Book Council for Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet

All Lower School students visit the library once weekly for storytime and library lessons.  Students in grades one through five use the library in the Lower School building.  Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students use the ECC Library.
Our goals for the Lower School Library Program are:
  • To encourage a love of reading
  • To provide students and faculty with a broad range of relevant, reliable and interesting resources
  • To provide students with the skills they need to become effective users of information and lifelong learners.
