Congratulations to six of Baldwin’s finest writers: Randi Brown, June Han, Sophia Tareen, and Emily Clark, Leah Silverman and Kaitlyn Hobson!  All of the girls were recognized for their writing on the regional level by the Scholastic Young Writers Awards.

Congratulations to Kelsey Veno who placed first in the Philadelphia Young Playwrights' 2010 Annual Playwriting Festival!  Veno's play, Grounded, was performed by undergraduate actors from Temple University on Nov. 4 and on Nov. 6, 2010 at the Tomlinson Theater.  The play was directed by Jan Silverman.

Karissa Wenks Cappies critique of the Springfield High School performance of Present Laughter was published in a November issue of the News of Delaware County!

Received a National Scholastic Art & Writing Award for her poem, Compass. She was honored, amongst other winners, at the 87th annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards ceremony at New York's Carnegie Hall.
 
 
May 2010 -- SIX BALDWIN SCHOOL STUDENTS won prizes in the annual Charlotte Miller Simon Poetry Contest conducted by the Ardmore Free Library. Congratulations to Rachel Coler for winning first place at the annual Baldwin Shakespeare Competition.  Rachel will go on to represent Baldwin at the English-Speaking Union Philadelphia Branch's regional competition at the Arden Theater on Monday, Feb. 21st.

April 2010 -- Sarah Parmaceck '11 won first place in the
Fleet Reserve Association's
"What Memorial Day Means to Me."
Caroline Durlacher was a finalist in the 2010 National Foundation for Advancement for the Arts YoungArts writing contest. Approximately 6,000 to 8,000 students register for YoungArts each year, and less than 150 of them are selected as YoungArts Finalists. As one of the finalists, she traveled to Miami, FL in January for YoungArts Week, an all-expense-paid week of master classes, showcase performances, exhibitions, enrichment programs, and final adjudications.
Baldwin junior Wendy Morrison was one of five finalists in the Philadelphia regional Shakespeare Recitation Competition sponsored by the English Speaking Union on Feb. 15 at the Arden Theater in Philadelphia. Morrison had won Baldwin’s competition and the right to represent the school in the regional event with a monologue from Romeo and Juliet. Baldwin’s runner-up was junior Samantha Sisler, who performed a monologue from Midsummer Night's Dream. (Left to right in photo, Samantha Sisler and Wendy Morrison)
 
Senior Caroline Durlacher and sophomores, Lauren Cooper and Randi Brown have been recognized by the Philadelphia Writing Project of the University of Pennsylvania for excellence in writing in the 2010 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. Durlacher received an American Voices Gold award for her dramatic script, Knowing, a Gold Key Award for her writing portfolio, and a Silver Key Award for a personal essay, “Atlas Affirming.” Cooper earned an American Voice Gold Award for her poem, “Compass,” and Brown won an honorable mention for her journalism article, “Recharging Education.” Durlacher’s and Cooper’s works move on to the national level of judging in the Art and Writing Awards competition.
