March 30, 2010 --Nadia Tareen ’11 was interviewed by Cathy Brooks on the blog talk radio show, Social Media Hour. Nadia and Cathy discussed her recent video and article for the Women's Media Center. Nadia’s video investigates the role that women play in the rise of social media.
The Women's Media Center features an article and video created by Nadia Tareen '11, as she explores the rise of social media networks and their effect on girls and our society as a whole.
On Tuesday, Feb. 8 the Mock Trial Plaintiff side argued their case and not only defeated a strong Haverford team, but also earned the second highest average score of the 30 teams that went!  The Mock Trial Defendant side had their trial on Thursday, Feb. 10 and defeated Abington High School.
 
Between our Plaintiff and Defendant teams, Baldwin had the highest combined score from the two first round trials of any team in the competition! There will be a second round trial on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.
 
Congratulations to Baldwin's Maya Rebholz for taking 2nd place in a two-day National Chess Tournament!  Nearly 500 players from across the US participated, including the current US chess champion.  To see more on Maya's results, visit http://www.nationalchesscongress.com/

Sarah Parmacek has earned the highest possible composite score on the ACT College Admissions and Placement Exam. Each year, less than one tenth of one percent earn a top score on this exam. In 2010, only 638 of nearly 1.5 million test takers earned a 36. We are proud to say that Sarah is one of those individuals, congratulations Sarah!
Middle School students attended a Student Diversity Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. last week.

On Tuesday, Feb. 22 the Mock Trial defense team squared off against Lower Merion and, in what both the judge and the jurors unanimously called a truly impressive display by both sides, won by a 3-2 margin. The semifinal round will take place next Tuesday, March 1 at 4 p.m. in Courtroom 6 at the Norristown Courthouse; our plaintiff team will be facing the Upper Dublin defense team.

Eighth grader Musu Taylor won the finals of Baldwin’s Middle
School National Geographic Bee competition on Jan. 13 in a competitive round of sixth, seventh and eighth grade finalists. Her first place finish provided her with the opportunity to advance to the state level and National Bee.
Twelve Baldwin seniors have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for outstanding performance on the 2008 PSAT. They include Semifinalists Ellen Morris, Sarah June, Emily Lau, Elena Stephenson and Allison Ballinger. Commended Students include Elizabeth Schoenberg, Caroline Durlacher, Claire Henkel, Noelle Niu, and Jennifer Newman. These students placed among the top five percent of those who took the test. Morgan Dawkins and Ayana Peterson have been named Outstanding Participants in the National Achievement Scholarship Program for Black Americans.
Eighteen members of the Classes of 2009 and 2010 have been named Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP Examinations.
