Winnie the Bear, Baldwin's mascot, got her name from a contest held by the Athletics Department in the mid-1980s. Students were asked to submit suggestions, and a panel of student and faculty judges chose the winner.
The eighth grade will mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October by holding a yoga class on Wednesday, Oct. 20 in the Multipurpose Room of the Athletic Center. The class is open to everyone. The cost is $10 per person, and all proceeds go to Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
The Baldwin Bookstore will be closed Monday, Oct. 4 through Friday, Oct. 8.  If you need assistance in the Bookstore, please see the Business Office or contact Rosemarie Horn at rhorn@baldwinschool.org.

Homecoming, PSAT, Parent Coffees
Homecoming! Saturday is pancakes, games, and activities for all. The Homecoming Dance starts at 7:30 p.m.; doors close at 8 p.m. and the party is over at 10:30 sharp. All Upper School girls are invited; dates are optional.
A Message from Middle School Director Lois Pressman
All Middle School parents are cordially invited to Middle School Parents' Visiting Day on Friday, Oct. 1 from 8:15 to 11:25 a.m.
Best-selling children's author Patricia MacLachlan, who wrote Sarah, Plain and Tall, will share her perspective, writing process, and experiences as a female author in an evening program Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the Residence Building. The talk is the first in a series of presentations sponsored by Baldwin's new Write Now program.
When you are at Homecoming this Saturday, make sure you stop by the Parents' Association Spirit Gear table near the Red Gym and the BBQ.  There will be an excellent selection of sophisticated spirit gear that you will be as proud to wear as you are proud to send your daughter to Baldwin.  For more information, please click on the Parents' Association Newsletter in the upper right hand corner.
Calling all Baldwin families! Rally for Baldwin! Homecoming is this Saturday, Oct. 2, and there is something for everyone. This year's theme - "The Tribe Has Spoken" - will offer jungle-inspired fun and games on Middle Field for Lower and Middle School students from 10 a.m. to noon, and tribal T-shirts and sweatshirts will be on sale to everyone.  Our varsity fall teams will compete in front of cheering crowds. Click on the Homecoming flyer in the right column for a complete schedule of events.
