upper school student lifeWe believe that a complete education includes opportunities to participate both within and outside of the classroom. Only in this way can students fully develop a sense of place, responsibility, and self-worth. Therefore, the pressures of a rigorous academic program are balanced by a rich offering of clubs, organizations, and extra-curricular activities. All students are encouraged to contribute to the Baldwin community through club membership, involvement in community service, and the pursuit of student leadership positions.

Leadership
Leadership opportunities in the Upper School are abundant and diverse. Many opportunities exist for each person to find something she loves and to be a leader in that area. There is something for everyone…for artists, actors, activists, academics, and athletes. Best of all, if someone is interested in starting something new, she can. Mirroring current interests of our students, our club list is quite dynamic.

Responsibility
We are committed to giving student leaders autonomy and responsibility, increasing with age. When an event is held, whether it is the Homecoming Dance, the AIDS Walk, a car wash, or a special event between two grades, the girls are in charge of planning and implementing the program. Its success depends on their leadership.

Advising Program
In addition to a diverse extra-curricular program, our vibrant advising program is a keystone in the life of Upper School. This program engenders close relationships among students and between faculty and students and fosters a strong feeling of support and encouragement. Students feel safe taking risks, leading to increased self-confidence and independence.

Supported and valued by one another and by faculty and administrators, each student is encouraged to reach her potential as a student, as a citizen, and as a unique individual.
