In 1889, The Baldwin School graduated its first girls, anticipating that they would go on to attend one of the "seven sister" colleges. Yesterday, 47 seniors graduated from Baldwin and, as members of the School’s 125th graduating class, will attend colleges across America. Unlike the graduates from 125 years ago, the Class of 2013 has unlimited options.  The seniors earned 184 acceptances from 105 colleges in 40 states and four countries (United States, Canada, Scotland and France). More than a third of the class (39 percent) will pursue science and engineering, followed by 36 percent studying liberal arts and languages, 20 percent studying business and five percent pursuing performing arts. Schools that would have been off limits to women in the 1800’s will welcome Baldwin graduates this fall including Harvard, Princeton and the U.S. Naval Academy.

This award is voted on by student-athletes who have played on a team in Upper School.

A record 500 runners and walkers, dressed in everything from tutus to fairy wings and running gear to formal wear, participated in The Baldwin School's 10th Annual Alex Wake Memorial 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk on Saturday, May 4, raising more than $50,000 to support academic scholarships, athletic programming and educational awareness on domestic abuse.

Alexandra Wake ‘05, a gentle, talented 14-year-old student at The Baldwin School, was the victim of domestic violence that took not only her life, but that of her mother and grandparents on January 15, 2002. A hard working, bright Baldwin girl, Alex was empathetic and believed in building bridges and breaking down walls. She was a member of Baldwin’s cross country and track teams which gives special meaning to having a run named in her memory.

The 10th Annual Alex Wake Memorial 5K Run & 1 Mile Fun Walk continues to provide the Baldwin and neighboring communities with a better understanding of, and the resources available for, women’s health, empowerment of women, and combating domestic violence. While the message is a serious one, the day is one of celebration as the School, its students and alumnae honor the spirit and camaraderie of their former classmate.
