Valerie Yoshimura and Jessica Levit provided another Baldwin “one-two” in the 200 individual medley event.Senior co-captain Akela Lacy won the 50 yard freestyle with Springside’s Molly Stein taking a close second.

“This year we are lucky to have our largest team in recent history,” Baldwin head coach Dave Hart said, “Despite graduating eight athletes last year, we have 15 new swimmers this year.”

Baldwin expanded its lead in the second half of the meet with Valerie Yoshimura’s win in the 100 butterfly. Jessica Levit took first place honors, just ahead of Springside’s Megan Karoly. Springside’s Taylor Apostolico kept her team in the hunt with a win in the 500 free, beating out Baldwin’s Ally Branman and Megan Handal.

“Our depth has helped us stay in meets this year with teams that used to dominate us.” said Hart, “We have a core of very good swimmers who will continue to improve."

Baldwin began to pull away with a win in the 200 freestyle relay with Vivian Vu, Hailey Weiss, Jessica Levit and Val Yoshimura. Springside kept fighting as Taylor Apostilico and Dena O’Larnic stunned Baldwin with a one-two finish in the 100 backstroke, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Baldwin, as Amanda TerDoest finished first in the 100 breaststroke.

The final event, the 400 free relay, was won by Baldwin’s Maddie Noteware, Ally Branman, Emily O’Brien and Akela Lacy.

“We didn’t know what we were capable of this year with so many new faces,” said Hart, “But we are more than pleased with the leadership and talent on Baldwin’s team shining through as we head to the Inter-Ac Championships.”
