Welcome to Suzuki at Baldwin

What can you do as a parent to facilitate and encourage violin lessons at home?

This is an important question. Initially, for the beginning student, we recommend about 5 to 10 minutes a day.  As our students continue to progress through their music, we stress review of previously learned tunes to anchor the foundational skills that they have learned.  When a student has neared the end of Suzuki Vol. 1, they should be playing 20 to 25 minutes at a time.  We know that the student who spends that kind of quality time with their instrument, does very, very well and she also enjoys the satisfaction of growing as a young musician!

Suzuki students learn violin technique and learn how to play comfortably and correctly. Our goals include teaching music theory and note reading so that these young musicians can play in an ensemble as soon as they are ready, thus enriching their musical experience and giving back to their school.

The place for practice does not have to be in a secluded spot.  Children want to play for their parents.  They can show you what they are learning while you are preparing dinner or in the morning before school.  A music stand at home is very helpful.

What can a parent do?

Try to help your child pick out a regular practice time in their/your schedule.  You do not have to stand over your child, but be encouraging of careful and not just "slam dunk" practice.

Should you desire to attend a lesson, please let us know.  Suzuki is a child and parent friendly method!  If your child is frustrated or confused please let us know.  We always try to keep parents informed of where their child is in the Suzuki books by writing little notes and dating the pages.
