Baldwin's lightweight double of Madison Noteware '12 and Allie Hoeltzel '10
won a silver medal at the USRowing Youth National Championships in
Cincinnati, OH on June 13 with a time of 8:00.509. First place went to Lake Union
from Seattle, WA and third was Pocock Rowing Center, also from Seattle. Baldwin's double was one of only two Philadelphia area crews to medal at the national championships.

Fifty-one seniors received their high school diplomas Thursday, June 10 at 3 p.m. at the school's 122nd commencement exercises at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.
Following tradition, the young women of the Class of 2010 wore white dresses and carried bouquets featuring their class color of green. Elected by her classmates to serve as student speaker was Charlotte Damico, who will attend Bucknell University next year. Read Charlotte's speech here. The Baldwin chap ter of Girls Learn International (GLI) held a successful fundraiser called "Girls Going Global: Art and Activism at Baldwin and Beyond" on May 14. With funds raised at this event and throughout the year, the Baldwin chapter will be able to send over $2,000 to the Khanote School this year, along with a quilt made by the advisees of the Upper School and the GLI chapter. The sum of $500 was the original goal for the year!

When Ada Mutch graduated from Baldwin in 1922, she was the recipient of the school’s coveted “Gym Prize,” an honor that is the equivalent of today’s White Blazer A ward, a designation given to the school’s best all-around athlete, as chosen by her peers. As the winner, she was bestowed with the bragging rights of this honor and a small plaque.
On Friday, April 30, 2010, 88 years after her graduation from Baldwin, our oldest alumna finally received a White Blazer to call her own.

A Message from Head of School Sally Powell The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC)
program, an important state program that allows businesses to support
scholarship funds at schools such as Baldwin, is under attack and we need your
help to keep it alive! We are asking all Baldwin community members to contact
their state legislators this week and urge them to maintain the EITC program at
its current level.

The school communit y is invited to attend "Girls Going Global: Art and Activism at Baldwin and Beyond" on Friday, May 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Athletic Center. The event is a fundraiser for Baldwin's chapter of Girls Learn International (GLI), which is at left.

Save the date for the 7th Annual Alex Wake 5K Run and Walk Saturday, May 1, starting on the Baldwin campus. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the races goes off at 9 a.m. Many wonderful sponsorship opportunities are available.

The Baldwin Upper School Maskers will present
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
on Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 25 at 2 p.m.
in the Athletic Center Multipurpose Room. This musical comedy is sure to entertain, and it's a perfect way to brush up on words and definitions before the SATs! All ages are welcome and will enjoy this show.

Artists” exhibition in the Residence Art Gallery March 14 to April 8. An opening reception will
be held Sunday, March 14 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Baldwin will host the Greater Philadelphia Student (GPS) Conference sponsored by the Main Line Diversity Alliance Friday and Saturday, March 19 and 20. The Main Line Diversity Alliance (MDLA) is a group of students from seven area independent schools dedicated to promoting social responsibility and change in our schools and community. More specifically, the MLDA is committed to developing and communicating an understanding of a broad spectrum of issues including, but not limited to, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and race.

Due to impending inclement weather, the Upper a nd Middle School Dance Teams have postponed their Feb. 9 concert to Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Athletic Center. Admission is free. The program includes ballet, modern, jazz, rock and hip hop numbers choreographed by the dance directors and by students. (At left is the Upper School Dance Team.)

The Baldwin Mid dle School will stage A Midsummer Night's Dream Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Ball Auditorium of The Haverford School. Admission is $8. The cast includes students from both Baldwin and Haverford. The play was written by William Shakespeare but adapted by Diane Timmerman.

The Upper School Service League would like to invite all students, their families and friends to our Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Monday, Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Athletic Center. In collaboration with the Philadelphia Reads organization, the Upper School set a goal of collecting 500 children’s books to donate to those schools, churches and community centers servicing Philadelphia and Delaware counties. Since December, Baldwin has surpassed that goal; we’ve collected over 1200 books!

The 121-year hi story of the Baldwin
School in Bryn Mawr includes a strong commitment to service and leadership in
the community. From offering childcare to the needy in the 1880s to helping the
homeless in the 1990s and to providing support for our soldiers overseas in the
new millennium. Baldwin students always have made service to the community an
important part of student life. Last fall and into the holiday season, Baldwin
students have been busy working to aid local, national and international
charities and organizations in need.
