Maskers stage controversial drama
10/30/2008
The Upper School Maskers’ fall production of Naomi Ragen’s Women’s Minyan will give you a glimpse into an ultra-orthodox neighborhood in Meah Shearim, Israel. The play is based on the true story of a Haredi woman, the wife of a rabbi and the mother of 12 children, who abandons her family for unspecified reasons. She returns two years later to reclaim her children and face those who were left to care for them in her absence.

This case was taken to Israel’s Supreme Court and remains unresolved. Like the actual person in the case, the main character in the play has a story to tell that will explain her actions and shock her community.

Women’s Minyan contains mature subject matter and is not suitable for young children. Upper School students are encouraged to attend, and Middle School students are welcome also, but it has been suggested that a parent accompany them.

Performances are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Drama Workshop. Tickets at the door or in advance at the Bookstore are $7. All ticket sales benefit the Maskers.
