A Message from Lower School Director Baiba Vasys
Everyone received copies of The Baldwin School 2008 – 2009 Community Directory & Student Handbooks. I urge you to carefully review the "All School Information" (Pages 114 – 133) and "The Lower School Information" (Pages 134 – 161). The handbook contains guidelines and expectations that we have for your daughters, as well as clarification on programs, procedures and policies of the Lower School. If you are familiar with earlier versions of the parent handbook, you will see there are some changes in this new edition. Please take the time to go through the handbook and refer to it when you have questions. I trust that you will find it very useful.

A Message from Upper School Director Eric Benke Parents' meeting is Oct. 29
We are approaching our annual visit from Brenda Conlan, an alcohol and other drug prevention specialist, who will be making her sixth annual visit to Baldwin the week of Oct. 27. Her prior visits were exceptional in terms of how quickly she earned the respect of the students, opened lines of communication, and offered insights into risky behavior and invaluable tips about avoiding trouble. She would have met with your children when they were in the seventh grade, and we hope that you too had a chance to meet her at one of the past years’ parent evenings.

Two tests will be conducted
Now that fall is upon us, it is time to test our emergency communication system. In case of inclement weather we will inform families of any school closure via our AlertNow phone message system. In order to be certain that we have accurate contact information, we will conduct two tests of our school closing and emergency alert system on Friday, Oct. 17. You will receive two phone voice messages during the school day that will require no response on your part. Please take a moment, before Oct. 17, to check that all your contact information is accurate. If you do not want this message or any future school closing messages sent to the main number you supplied on your website profile, please contact David Anderson at danderson@baldwinschool.org or at ext. 284. Also, please let him know if you do NOT receive a message on Friday, Oct. 17.

A Message from Head of School Sally Powell
I have been involved in several conversations these past years about the relationship that Baldwin has with our local press. So, I thought it might be interesting for you to learn about Baldwin’s stance when it comes to information we choose to share – or not to share – with the media.
