Alexandra Wake, a gentle, talented 14 year old student at The Baldwin School, was the victim of a horrific act of domestic violence that took not only her life, but that of her mother and grandparents on January 15, 2002. Alex was an extraordinary young woman whose tragic death was an enormous loss to our community.  Her contributions as a scholar, athlete and friend were invaluable.  A hard working, intellectual Baldwin girl, she was empathetic and believed in building bridges and breaking down walls.  Alex was a member of our cross country and track teams and this Memorial Run/Walk is the medium by which we celebrate her life.

The 9th Annual Alex Wake Memorial 5K Run & 1 Mile Family Fun Walk continues to provide our community at Baldwin and on the Main Line with a better understanding of, and the resources available for, women’s health, empowerment of women, and combating domestic violence.
In addition to funding an endowed scholarship in Alex's name, a percentage of the proceeds help underwrite Blue Gray's endeavor in support of Baldwin Athletics, including educational programs for all divisions.

This event was presented by Blue Gray, Baldwin Athletics and the Development Office.

Four-hundred runners and walkers - more than ever - took part in the 8th annual event on May 30, 2011.  The event raised more than $40,000, a marked increase over previous years.  In addition to funding an endowed scholarship in Alex's name, a percentage of the proceeds will help underwrite Blue Gray's endeavor in support of Baldwin Athletics, including educational programs.  This year, the Women's Council of Montgomery County presented age-appropriate information and handouts at student assemblies for all divisions.

This event was presented by Blue Gray, Baldwin Athletics and the Development Office.  Blue Gray thanks the generous sponsors, volunteers and participants for making the event a great success and for supporting the Alex wake Memorial Scholarship Fund and Baldwin Athletics.
