A Message from Head of School Sally Powell
Last Tuesday evening, Oct. 26, we hosted the first “Only @ Baldwin,” forum, one of three annual gatherings focusing on matters that relate to and directly affect our community. The evening’s topic of discussion was Baldwin’s current financial outlook and the metrics we currently use to evaluate and ensure our school’s continued forward momentum as an institution.
Approximately one third of Baldwin alumnae major in science, math or technology in college. Look here every week for a Baldwin Factoid!
"One Book One Lower Merion" is a series of varied programs that are relevant to a book selected by the One Book One Lower Merion Committee. This season's book is Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier, a fascinating story of two women who changed the course of scientific understanding of evolution through their discovery of fossils in 18th century England. Baldwin will host one of these programs on Thursday, Nov. 11 when Dr. Ted Daschler of the Academy of Natural Sciences is the featured speaker. For more information, click on the download in the right column of this newsletter.
It’s not too late to register for Saturday Enrichment Sessions! “Inside the Actress’ Studio,” is a  Saturday morning program for girls in grades two through five that focuses on presentation, etiquette, social interactions, and communication skills. Kimberley Kleczka offers this program which takes place on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the Parents' Association annual General Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m. in the Playoom. For Lower School families, please make sure you have RSVP'ed for the fabulous Mother/Special Person & Daughter event this Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. by clicking on this link. For additional PA News, please click on the PA Newsletter button in the upper right hand corner.
A Message from Upper School Director Eric Benke
We had a terrific Halloween festival on Friday; it was a fun and happy day. Coming up, the first quarter of the school year ends this Thursday; The Fall play is the weekend of Nov. 12 and 13, and Class Picture and Picture Retake Day is Nov. 17. Nov. 17 is also the evening of the Junior Parent/Student College Night – all members of the junior class should plan to be there with their parents at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Room.
A Message from Lower School Director Baiba Vasys
Thinking girls work to help others even when they are “dressed to the nines!”  Last Friday was not just about festivities in Lower School.  It became a mini day of community service!
The Baldwin Maskers will stage Neil Simon's hilarious Rumors Friday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 13 at 2 and 8 p.m. in the Multipurpose Center of the Athletic Center. You are invited to the 10th anniversary dinner party for the Deputy Mayor of New York City and his wife, where you will enjoy, according to the New York Post, a "light, frothy and fun" evening of farce and comical miscommunication.
The Art Department is pleased to announce that the Autumn 2010 All-School Art Exhibition is now on view in the Residence Art Gallery. The art highlights selected work from grades from PK to 12. The show runs through Nov. 23. Please stop by and enjoy the work of our Baldwin artists.
Our After School Enrichment Program, "Thinkingirls After School," offers a wide variety of fun and engaging courses for girls in grades PK through V. Winter courses begin the week of Dec. 6 and end the week of Feb. 14.
