The Lower School Director provides leadership for the Lower School faculty, oversees the daily operations and programs of the division, and is a member of the senior administrative team of the Baldwin School. The Director works cooperatively with Middle and Upper School division directors to coordinate the school’s programs.The Director examines curriculum and pedagogical practice in order to ensure balance and age appropriate expectations in an academically rigorous lower school program.The Director hires, supervises and guides teachers to create a joyful community of learners dedicated to the needs of the lower school child.She or he is actively engaged in student life, providing a healthy structure for lower school girls and encourages personal development and good citizenship.The Director works closely with the Lower School Assistant Head, Learning Facilitator, and School Specialists to oversee the progress and well-being of students.She or he is responsible for communicating effectively and responsively with the Lower School parent community.

Qualifications
The successful candidate has earned an advanced degree and has significant experience in teaching and administration at the lower school level.She or he will possess a thorough knowledge of pedagogy, classroom technology, curriculum development, managing change, and an understanding of the developmental needs of lower school girls from diverse backgrounds. The candidate must enjoy the challenges of working with lower school girls and their families, possess a passion for educating children, and view the lower school experience through the lens of child development.Excellent organizational skills are essential, as well as a proven ability to interact effectively and positively with students, parents, faculty and staff.

The Position
A full-time Upper School History teacher is expected to teach four sections in grades 9 – 12, to contribute to the advising and co-curricular programs, to engage in those duties typical of independent day school life and to support the school’s mission. This position will, for the well-qualified candidate, include assuming the responsibilities of Department Chair.

Qualifications
Candidates should have an M.A. in a relevant subject area and at least 5 years of teaching experience in the discipline.The strongest candidates will have experience with United States History, World History, and some non-Western History.We seek successful, innovative departmental leadership experience and/or strong potential for such leadership. We also seek experience in curriculum design and development. In addition to the ability to teach the history effectively, engage students positively, and interact productively with colleagues and parents, the successful candidate will have a strong facility in supporting students with reading, writing, research skills and appropriate technology. Involvement with Model United Nations or similar programs is expected and experience will be given extra consideration.

LENGTH:  Spring (January 2012 through June 2012)

HOURS:  15-20 hours/week

JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking applications for an intern for the Spring semester starting January 2012.  This is a wonderful opportunity for an individual who is interested in exploring the field of development and or the non-profit world.  The position will work with the directors of annual giving and alumnae relations. Interns will develop an understanding of the development field by assisting with: data gathering and peer institution research, archival management, email and direct mail marketing and solicitations, and special events and projects.

Applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, an interest in development, non-profit management and marketing.  S/he shall possess superior organizational skills and attention to detail, database/spreadsheet experience, on line research skills and social media experience;  knowledge of Raisers Edge or similar database management software is a plus.

10-40 hours per week; schedule flexible
