Baldwin Scholars

The Baldwin Lower School years are filled with experiences designed to build competence, confidence and a sense of connectedness in our girls.

On Fridays, all Lower School students gather for assemblies during Community Time. These assemblies may include a special speaker, musical presentation, class play or production, or an author visit. Fifth Graders provide leadership for Lower School gatherings through presentations, skits, songs and demonstrations.

Each grade in the Lower School chooses age-appropriate community service projects, often correlated with a unit of study.  The Baldwin School Service League has been in existence since the school's founding in 1888 and has worked with Special Olympics, Heifer International, senior citizens' centers, UNICEF and Family Support Services.

Studies come alive when girls travel on field trips to places of historic, scientific or cultural interest, as part of the school curriculum. Orienteering at Ridley Creek State Park is a highlight of third grade, while Ffth Graders attend a Naturalization Ceremony in Philadelphia's Federal Courthouse, viewing first-hand the diversity of our nation and welcoming America's newest citizens.  Every Lower School grade has special trips that later become treasured memories.

Music has a very special place at Baldwin. Highlights of the school year are concert performances held in the spring with both choral and instrumental components. Chorus for first through fifth grade meets during the day, in addition to weekly music classes.  Click here for more information on Baldwin’s music programs.

Field days and swim meets are organized by the Physical Education Department at the end of the school year. Blue/Gray teams for third through fifth grade compete in track and field events. Students in pre-kindergarten through second grade have a separate morning of non-competitive, fun filled events. Swim meets allow students in third, fourth and fifth grade to demonstrate their swimming skills in Blue/Gray team competitions. Parents are invited to watch all of these events.
