The Gold Circle Awards are offered in late September to recognize work by individual student journalists working with print during the previous academic year.

The 7,093 entries from the 86 categories in the Gold Circle Awards for newspapers and magazines were judged during late August. In the category of first person experience, Melia Hagino won 2nd prize for her piece “Both and Neither: The Life of a Mixed Race Student." In the category of Cartoons, Kate Park won 1st prize for her comic “There Goes the Neighborhood.”

The entries for this competition come from publications produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools through the United States and abroad who follow the American education plan.
