Madison Dawkins ’15 and Laura Nguyen ’15 recently attended a conference called GenHERation about women’s empowerment.  Prior to attending the conference, Madison submitted a proposal for the GenHERation Connection Community Challenge and won a $500 grant.

Marisa Porges ’96 has been appointed as a member of the 2014-2015 Class of White House Fellows. Marisa is the second Baldwin alumna to receive this honor, joining Kinney Zalesne ’83, who was a member of the White House Fellows Class of 1995-1996.

On November 19, during the Middle School assembly, students from the Grade VIII second period drama class presented their class project performance, “We All Fall Down.” The play, originally created by drama teacher Aileen McCulloch with 8th grade students from the Twin Valley Middle School in Berks County, is about a team slumber party where things go horribly wrong. The 14 Grade VIII girls have been excited to explore the original play, rewrite it and perform it for an assembly.

Five fall student-athletes were named All-Inter-Ac League on Monday afternoon.

The Middle School fall sports awards were announced at the end-of-season assembly on Wednesday, November 12 at the Athletic Center MPR.
Eliza Mantelmacher '15 signed a national letter of intent to play lacrosse and attend George Washington University (GW) on Friday afternoon at the Athletic Center in front of family, friends, classmates, coaches, teachers and administrators.

The Middle School and Math Department are pleased to welcome Christy Renninger to The Baldwin School this year as a Grade VII and VIII math teacher. Christy’s spirit and work ethic are seen every day in and out of her classroom.

The Baldwin School has been ranked as the 2nd Best Private High School in Pennsylvania by Niche. Baldwin was among 198 high schools in Pennsylvania that received a grade from Niche.

This week, the Class of 2018 can be found in the Art History room preparing for their upcoming trip to Italy. These are exciting days for Baldwin’s freshman class. History Teacher Jennifer Cutler and Art Department Chair Janice Wilke teamed up to present a preview on the art history the freshman will experience during their class trip to Rome, Siena, and Florence.

On Friday and Saturday, November 7 - 8, Baldwin’s Maskers presented its fall play Chamber Music at two successful evening performances. Chamber Music by Arthur Kopit is a strong ensemble piece that tells the story of eight women who are, or believe themselves to be, famous women from history that are all interned in a mental institution. The play tackles the questions of whether the world is open to women of great ideas and if women have authentic power.

Farah Jasmine Griffin ’81, William B. Ransford Professor of English, Comparative Literature, and African American Studies at Columbia University will present “New Shades of Blue: Black Women Singers” in the 1970s on Wednesday, November 12.

Baldwin families, friends and staff attended our second Family Arts Day, with many parents and non-Baldwin family members attending the workshops. Increasing the number of workshops offered from seven to nine, our Arts Faculty engaged all who attended in an afternoon of the arts.

For the past five years, the girls in Baldwin’s Lower School have been doing chores to raise money for 10x10, a global campaign for girls’ education. Emelie Wilkes, a pre-kindergarten teacher at Baldwin, came up with the concept of “Girls Helping Girls.” With the Baldwin community filled with amazing young women, she felt it was time for Baldwin to stand behind its Core Values.

Last week, Baldwin students donated 500 gifts and 200 handmade Christmas cards for children at the Rift Valley Children’s Village in Tanzania as part of its Annual Christmas Presents Gift Drive.

Baldwin's Science Department hosted its third annual Science Student Research Symposium on Tuesday, October 28. Four amazing senior scientists from the Class of 2015, Taylor Chen, Abigail Andrews, Laura Noteware, and Jasmine Syed, spent their summers in research labs at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Abramson Research Center, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine.
