A school with a 123-year history has to balance tradition with modernity.
All classrooms at Baldwin are equipped with SmartBoards and LCD projectors. Teachers leverage SmartBoards as a collaboration tools for students, and have seen a significant shift in the speed with which students grasp particular concepts by supplementing their instruction with interactive digital information. SmartBoards have eliminated paper clutter and waste, made lesson planning and class teaching time more efficient, and empowered students. Teachers often
use the latest web-based software, from Prezi for presentations to wikis, where
students can create documents collaboratively.
Over 200 computers on campus are dedicated to student use (computer labs in Schoolhouse and Lower School; computers in Schoolhouse and Lower School libraries, Lower School classrooms, art and music classrooms). Teachers also often use of one of four available laptop carts
and Baldwin's wireless access throughout the school to integrate additional technology into their classrooms.
Baldwin believes in empowering its faculty and students by providing access to state-of-the-art training and resources. Our teachers also share best practices and new software with each other through technology workshops on topics ranging from google apps to multi-media integration.
From Kindergarten through grade VII, students receive targeted
instruction in the use of a variety of software and web-based
applications. Technology instruction
culminates with students learning the fundamentals of Computer Science, a field
they can pursue in Upper School. Students also have the opportunity to pursue their interest in
technology through a Creative Computing and Robotics Club in middle school and
a Robotics club in Upper School.
With younger generations becoming more technologically savvy, Baldwin embraces the opportunity to adapt and reach students on their level through the tools they will need for the future.
