Dear Baldwin Friends:
Welcome to our school! In the 1880s, Miss Florence Baldwin had a vision: to provide an educational experience that would prepare young girls to be successful in the realms of higher education. Her lofty goal of founding a school to educate girls for college was summarily dismissed by many as a “preposterous extravagance!” However, she persisted and her vision is as vital today as it ever was.
The Baldwin School of the 21st century is so much more than Miss Baldwin could have possibly imagined. While deeply rooted in the traditions of academic excellence, integrity and community, our school now nurtures engaged, compassionate learners with a truly global outlook. We cherish a safe learning environment in which girls, teachers, parents, and administrators collaborate in the development of self-discovery, cultural awareness and concern for others as we pave the path for active, reflective citizens of the world.
And, of course, Baldwin is all about girls and young women. Our faculty and staff dedicate their days to teaching, supporting, and better understanding the challenges that girls face in today’s society. We constantly strive to provide new opportunities for our girls to excel in our classrooms as well as in the myriad of co-curricular offerings that enhance their particular interests and talents. Each Baldwin alumna is a unique product of our school, but all our alumnae share an intellectual confidence that both empowers them to take risks and also allows their sensitivity to shine through.
I do hope that you will take the time to come and visit us, and to meet our girls. I promise you that you will find an environment that will delight and surprise you!
Warm wishes,
Sally M. Powell
