Join us as we take a trip to different continents and countries! Learn about the cultures of Asia, Europe, India, Latin America and Africa. Every day is a new destination and will highlight a holiday or celebration through stories, games, crafts and cooking a meal or snack authentic to that region. There is something for everyone during this fun-filled week.
If you like Mandarin and movement, this is the session for you. We will explore Mandarin through the lens of things we often see in the summer - sports, leisure activities and wildlife such as insects and sea animals. Each class will include daily qigong practice through the eight silk movements known as Ba Duan Jin. We will also explore Chinese culture through stories about the Dragon Boat Festival, the Four Treasures of the Study and Zheng He’s Seven Voyages.
In this course, we'll learn about the different parts of the brain and learn about the brain's connection to physical health and wellness. Our understanding of the brain and its processes will help us as we move into exploring practices that can increase our awareness of our senses and our surroundings. We'll talk about the brain's connection to emotions and about the ways we can manage emotions, improve focus and increase self-awareness. Activities will include movement, journaling and other forms of creative expression.
Designed for those who like to draw and paint, this session offers you fun opportunities to express your creativity and create mini projects focusing on line, pattern, color, value and composition. Throughout the course, you will receive modeled instruction, and apply these elements to create drawings and paintings in different styles inspired by famous artists like O’Keefe, Klee, Matisse, Mondrian and Picasso.
Fairies love pretty flowers, magical dust and tiny foods! Join us for a week of fairy crafts (wands, houses, fairies, decorations, nightlight), stories, foods and even fairy playdough. Get your wings ready to soar around the fairy world.
In this interactive and hands on workshop style course, we will learn to read photographs both visually and emotionally. The photographs we take will tell a story about an object or a person that the photo embodies. We will also write letters, diary entries and poems as we interact with photographs taken by famous photographers and photographs they take themselves. You will come away with a broader sense of visual literacy and written expression! Please note: a digital camera, smartphone or iPad will be required for this course.
