Baldwin Maskers Wins Three Cappies

The Baldwin School's Upper School Maskers were honored with three Cappies awards out of eight nominations during the Sunday, May 21 Cappies Gala celebration. Ishana S. '17 was named Outstanding Supporting Actress in a play, Sanjana Friedman '17 was named Outstanding Leading Actress in a play, and the entire jury was named Outstanding Ensemble in a Play. 
The award winning ensemble included: Melia Hagino '18 (who accepted the ensemble award on behalf of the cast), Emily Thompson '18, Jattu Fahnbulleh '20, Cristina Artis'17, Lauren Fosnacht '17, Audrey Senior '18, Jane Bradley '17, Katherine Mostek'18, Kit Conklin '20 and Ashley Tate '19. Lili-Ana Balatel '18, Neelam Pandya '18 and guest male actor Lionel McCulloch were also honored through an Outstanding Play nomination.  All were in attendance at the Cappies gala, where the ensemble also performed a scene from the play for the crowd of almost 1500 audience members.
Stage Manager, Sarai Brown-Alexander '17 was named a Cappies All Star for her behind the scenes and onstage work at Baldwin during the last year. Sarai played the leading role in Sister Act, co-music directed Mulan and was the stage manager for 12 Angry Jurors this year. One student from each Cappies school was named an all star.
Also nominated in award categories were Emily Thompson for Outstanding Critic, the dramaturgical team of Julia Maenza '18, Roya Alidjani '17, Noor Bowman '20 and Carly McIntosh '18 (assisted by the Fall US Drama Class Dramaturgy Team) for Creativity, Jane Bradley for Featured Actress in a Play, and Audrey Senior for Comic Actress. The entire production was nominated for Outstanding Play, which included the work of Jennifer Brown '17 (light design), Alexis McCall '18 (costume design), Kathryn Park '18 (set design), with Roya Alidjani as Assistant Director. Rebecca Resnick '20 offered Lighting Assistance on the play, while Carly McIntosh handled sound operation and design. The play was directed by Baldwin School Drama Teacher, Aileen McCulloch.
All members of the cast received medallions for their nominations, while a trophy was awarded in each winning category. The Ensemble in a Play award will be on display in the black box theater, where the Maskers hold their weekly meetings.
