Students Win Scholastic Art, Writing Awards

The Scholastic Art and Writing Program is a nationwide contest that honors outstanding achievement in high school visual and literary arts. There are three levels of awards: the Gold Key, the Silver Key and an Honorable Mention.

This year's Art winners are:

  • Erin Chang '19 won two Gold Keys, seven Silver Keys and six Honorable Mentions for digital photography.
  • Alissa Liu '19 won a Gold Key for sculpture (along with an "American Visions" nomination), two Silver Keys for painting and three Honorable Mentions for drawing and painting.
  • Bella Aldrete '20 won a Silver Key for painting.
  • Sharzad Shojaian '18 won two Silver Keys and two Honorable Mentions for jewelry.
  • Arden Davey '23 won a Silver Key for painting.
  • Annie Lin '20 won an Honorable Mention for painting.
  • Leanne Sun '19 won three Honorable Mentions for drawing and painting.
  • Belsem Aljobory '23 won an Honorable Mention for painting.
  • Sabrina Yeung '22 won an Honorable Mention for painting.
  • Tiffany Yeung '22 won an Honorable Mention for painting.
  • Jaclyn Dichter '22 won an Honorable Mention for two photographs.

  • This year, 17 Baldwin students won a total of 26 writing awards, with four students winning Gold Key awards. These winning pieces will go on to be adjudicated at the national level. The following Baldwin students were recognized for their creativity in writing:

  • Gabby Banas '18 won a Gold Key for her Flash Fiction "Create Me by Destroying Me" and an Honorable Mention for her Personal Essay/Memoir "Squeaky Shoes."
  • Alexis McCall '18 won a Gold Key for her Short Story "Heartbeat."
  • Audrey Senior '18 won a Gold Key for her Short Story "Inalienable Justice," three Silver Keys for Poetry "Catching," "The Meeting" and "The Ladybug," an Honorable Mention for her Writing Portfolio "Babeling" and an Honorable Mention for her Personal Essay/Memoir "Can We Handle Free Speech?"
  • Sharzad Shojaian '18 won a Gold Key for her Flash Fiction "Happy" and an Honorable Mention for her Personal Essay/Memoir "80s Bliss."
  • Carly McIntosh '18 won a Silver Key for her Humor piece "Writer's Block" and an Honorable Mention for her Flash Fiction "The Nanny."
  • Cassandra Stecker '18 won a Silver Key for Poetry "Holy Communion."
  • Rachel White '18 won a Silver Key for her Flash Fiction "Adventure Time."
  • Hannah Yin '18 won a Silver Key for her Personal Essay/Memoir "The 'Old' New Year."
  • Caroline Buchner '18 won an Honorable Mention for her Personal Essay/Memoir "The Beauty of My Misfortunes."
  • Elizabeth Bunn '18 won an Honorable Mention for Poetry "California sends its regards."
  • Sarah Bunn '19 won an Honorable Mention for Poetry "Body Bared, Body Beneath" and an Honorable Mention for Poetry "Reprisal."
  • Sanjana Dixit '18 won an Honorable Mention for her Personal Essay/Memoir "Imagination: The Ultimate Freedom."
  • Grace Steelman '18 won an Honorable Mention for her Personal Essay/Memoir "Raw Chicken Wings."
  • Mackenzie Walter '18 won an Honorable Mention for her Short Story "Fourteen Thousand Two Hundred and Seventy-Three Days."
  • Angela Yang '18 won an Honorable Mention for Poetry "While I Sleep."
  • Amy Zhang '18 won an Honorable Mention for her Flash Fiction "Afterlife."
  • Jessica Zhu '21 won an Honorable Mention for her Science Fiction/Fantasy piece "Double-Edged Sword."
