The Baldwin School is committed to supporting local, national, and international communities in times of need. Following the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, many in the Baldwin community have expressed interest in how we can help.
Recognizing the importance of strategically and responsibly acting in the wake of such tragedies, Baldwin will focus on raising funds that can be donated to the Red Cross, an internationally recognized disaster relief organization that will ensure the effective and immediate usage of donation items and funds.
The Red Cross has established infrastructure to ensure successful, targeted outreach, and they have committed to donating at least $1M to relief efforts. They are mobilizing disaster specialists to help provide emergency humanitarian assistance to those in need. Efforts are part of a larger global Red Cross relief response, led by the Nepal Red Cross.
Grade X student Anika Iyer is leading the charge in the Upper School in an effort to galvanize her peers in support of Nepalese communities. Anika will host two bake sales next week (May 4 and May 6) with the assistance of her Grade X peers, and she plans to launch additional fundraising efforts as soon as next week. Anika will share information about this project with the community as needed.
Families who wish to serve more immediately can donate to those affected by the Nepal Earthquake via the American Red Cross website, or they can submit financial donations to Stephanie Wujcik, Coordinator of Service-Learning, who will send donations on behalf of Baldwin directly to the Red Cross.
