125th Anniversary

Dear Middle School Families,

Welcome to the 2014-2015 academic year! We are beginning this year of learning and growth for your daughter with several important changes.  First, construction of the Middle School DREAM Lab® on the third floor is complete.  Building on the foundation provided in the Lower School, design, robotics, engineering, arts, and mathematics content will be integrated in challenging and creative ways, under the direction of instructor, Mr. Ryan Barnes.   In addition, the approach to our Middle School Advisory now includes Mindful Monday and Thoughtful Thursday segments which will give structure to our efforts to ensure a safe and caring social emotional environment while supporting a rigorous academic learning experience for your daughter.  Also, in an effort to continue our quest to maximize technology integration, our Grade VIII girls will participate in a MacBook 1:1 program this year which will continue to broaden instructional experiences and further support the successful Upper School 1:1 integration.

With a sense of excitement, I officially assumed the role as Middle School Director on July 14.  Since then I have been meeting with parents, faculty and staff to gain a deeper understanding of the Baldwin culture in general and more specifically the Middle School.  These rich conversations further reinforced my belief that The Baldwin School is an organization that values education of the whole girl, including a rigorous academic experience, an emotionally and physically safe learning environment as well as opportunities for experiential learning and service.  It is my goal as Director to collaborate with families and faculty to continue to build on this foundation as we guide the girls in their development of self-confidence, independence, leadership and a passion for learning. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this amazing community and to experience this exciting journey alongside the girls and you!

Although the summer break provides a time to reflect, plan and reenergize, the Middle School classrooms and hallways are very quiet, especially on the third floor.  I am very much looking forward to meeting your daughters as they bring life back into the Middle School, sharing their limitless energy, curiosity, humor, caring interactions and conversation.  In the meantime, please contact me if you have questions or concerns at or 610.525.2700 x490.

Warmest regards,

Cindy Lapinski
Middle School Director
