Paul Butler

Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute
Paul Butler is a spirited musician, passionate teacher and gifted improviser whose work is celebrated worldwide in live performances and recordings. He has collaborated with Grammy Award-winning cellist David Darling at the International Cello Festival in Montreal and on recordings such as "Balance" and "Open Window." As part of the trio "Bridges And Poems," Paul has contributed to the score for the PBS documentary "Peter Matthiessen: No Boundaries" and the theatrical performance "Ride," which explores the bond between horses and humans through music and dance. In 1999, Paul and the Hot House Trio were appointed Jazz Ambassadors to the Middle East by the U.S. State Department, performing and teaching in several countries. His music is featured on Gothic Storm, a film industry music library. Paul holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Mansfield University and is a certified Music for People teacher, leading improvisation workshops. He has served as a Teaching Artist with Symphony In C and as part of Play On Philly!, an El Sistema-inspired program promoting music education as a tool for social change. Paul plays lead alto saxophone and clarinet in the Summer Club Big Band. He has recently been invited to perform and teach at the Clazz International Music Festival in Arcidosso, Tuscany, Italy.
