For students who were looking for an additional challenge and who were able to commit to working on their project on their own outside of school hours, there was the option of designing, testing and improving the blades. From this group, three teams qualified to travel to the Pennsylvania KidWind Challenge at Penn State University:
- Team Savona: Sedona Cohen and Avery Haron
- Wind Sisters: Evelyn Jean and Landyn D'Amico
- Dynamic Energy Duo: Olivia Choo and Hope Goldman
More than 160 students competed, including 15 Middle School and 15 Upper School teams from across the state. Baldwin's three student teams presented their unique turbine designs and documentation to a panel of expert judges and then each team tested their turbine in a wind tunnel. The girls were excellent ambassadors of Baldwin, and they were prepared, poised and professional. Thank you to Computer Science and Engineering Department Chair and Lower School DREAM Lab Coordinator Stephanie Greer and Lower School Science Teacher Becky Lewis for all of their hard work in preparing the girls for this event.
