Celebrating Hispanic & Latin American Heritage Month: Unidos in the Arts

From September 15 to October 15, Baldwin joins schools and communities across the country in celebrating National Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month — a time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic, Latina, Latino, and Latinx Americans.

This year’s national theme, “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation,” emphasizes the power of unity and the importance of building an inclusive society where everyone feels valued. At Baldwin, this message came to life through a dynamic Upper School panel discussion earlier this week, focused on Unidos in the Latina Arts Community.

Moderated by Dani Lovemen ’27, a student leader of Baldwin’s Hispanic Latin American Student Association, the panel featured three accomplished women whose creative work and lived experiences reflect the spirit of inclusivity and empowerment:
  • Erlina Ortiz, a Dominican-American playwright and Co-Artistic Director of Power Street Theatre, whose award-nominated musical Siluetas explores identity, family, and belonging.
  • Jenée Chizick Agüero, founder of Motivos magazine, a national bilingual youth-authored publication, who champions equity and storytelling as a vehicle for youth empowerment.
  • Anjoli Santiago, a Philadelphia-based artist and performer, whose passion for wordcraft and performance brings underrepresented voices to the forefront of the arts.
Together, they shared insights into their creative processes, discussed the power of representation in the arts, and reflected on how unity within diverse communities can inspire personal and collective growth.

Baldwin is proud to celebrate Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month and to provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage with and learn from voices shaping the future of the arts — and our world.
