Upper School Latin 2 Students Recognized in “Build It Challenge” Competition

Five Upper School Latin 2 students submitted extra credit projects to an international competition offered by the creators of Suburani, their Latin textbook series, called the "Build It Challenge." The prompt for the competition was to research and create, either physically or digitally, a replica of a building found in the readings of their textbook, Suburani. The students who participated were Sofia Tang ’28, Claire Doelger ’29, Amelia Nicklas ’29, Jordyn Napoli ’29, and Tiffany Li ’29.

Two students were featured in their online showcase! Congratulations to Sofia Tang ’28, a runner up in the UK years 9-11/US grades 8-10 category with her project titled "Via Flaminia." A comment from the judge stated, "Lovely physical model of a Roman arch at Carsulae, over the Via Flaminia. The medium chosen is good at giving us an impression of the basalt paved road surface. I like the view through the arch."

And congratulations to Amelia Nicklas ’29, who was given a special mention for her excellent digital modeling of the Temple of Vesta. A comment from the Suburani team said, "Evidence of a lot of research in the process to produce something accurate using professional software." The judge also commented, "Lots of work evident here both in research and modeling, and the 3D platform allows us to explore your model of the building for ourselves. Really good work."
