Amy Saler Ostroff ’85 is a native Philadelphian who now resides in Easton, MD. She earned her BS in Journalism from Northwestern University in 1989. Amy began her career in marketing and public relations for the financial services industry, serving as Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Prudential Securities and Marketing Coordinator at First Boston, both in New York City.
Her professional journey eventually led her to nonprofit leadership, including positions as Director of Marketing and Communications at the United Way of Nashua (NH) and Director of Alumnae Relations at Baldwin from 2002 to 2007. She also dedicated time to her local community, serving as co-president of the Parent-Teacher Organization at Stony Creek Elementary School in Blue Bell, PA.
In 2008, after a visit to the townships surrounding Cape Town, South Africa, Amy and her husband Jon were moved to take action. What began as an effort to do their small part by bringing family members, donating funds and goods, and sponsoring field trips evolved into
Love to Langa, an official 501(c)(3) public charity in 2010. Amy serves as President, overseeing all aspects of the organization, including board management, strategic planning, marketing and social media.
Entirely volunteer-run, Love to Langa is dedicated to transforming lives through education in South Africa. Notably, the organization recently opened Idayimani Montessori Academy, the first Montessori preschool in the Langa township of Cape Town. Built on the Montessori principle of early education starting at age three, Idayimani Montessori Academy serves 130 children with room to grow to 200. Other initiatives have included funding the expansion of an orphanage, building a classroom at an early-childhood center, a swimming academy in the farming community of Philippi, scholarship programs, providing teacher training and funding a youth photography program for at-risk teens.
Amy and Jon are the proud parents of three grown children — Adrienne, Ethen and Charlie. In her free time, Amy enjoys reading, traveling and has recently embraced her gift for hands-on energy healing.
