The Baldwin School Recognizes Grade 5 With a Moving Up Celebration

On June 3, the entire Lower School gathered for the final time this year at the Grade 5 Moving Up Ceremony for the Class of 2033. They celebrated the Class of Gold with the students’ families and friends with traditional Lower School songs and reflections on their time in Lower School. In addition, the Blue/Gray Cup was awarded to the Blue team this year.

The Lower School has a wonderful tradition of awarding one 5th grade student with an award named in honor of Baiba Vasys, retired Director of the Lower School. It is awarded to a fifth grader, moving up to Baldwin’s Middle School, who best exemplifies a commitment to Baldwin’s core values of learning, honesty, respect, compassion, and responsibility.

This year’s recipient is Nora Church ’33, who truly embodies what it means to lead by example, setting a positive tone for the entire community through her actions, not just her words. Teachers describe Nora as consistently focused, engaged, and curious. She puts forth her best effort in everything she does, beautifully balancing self-discipline with creativity, and staying open to growth even when things are challenging.

When it comes to respect, responsibility, and compassion, Nora is a shining example. Her warm, empathetic, and engaging personality allows her to build strong, trusting relationships with everyone she meets. She greets her teachers every day with a bright smile, but what makes her truly special is how she lifts up those around her. She makes friends with ease and is a deeply valued friend to many. In fact, she is frequently sought out by her peers as a partner because she is consistently kind, conscientious, and always willing to lend a helping hand to a classmate. By ensuring that everyone around her feels seen, valued, and included, she has made the Lower School a better place.
