Lynne Macziewski Named Next Baldwin Head of School

The Baldwin School Board of Trustees announced that it selected Lynne Macziewski of Chattanooga, TN, to lead the next generation of Baldwin students. She will be the ninth Head of the 134-year-old all-girls school, located in Bryn Mawr, PA. Ms. Macziewski will succeed current Head of School Dr. Marisa Porges ’96, on July 1, 2023.
 
A 20-year teaching and educational leadership veteran, Ms. Macziewski began her career as a middle school science teacher and advisor at The Blake School, a co-educational day school for Pre-K – Grade 12 in Hopkins, MN. She progressed over the years into school administration both at Blake and at her current school, Girls Preparatory School, a Grade 6 – 12 all-girls school in Chattanooga, TN, where she is currently the Associate Head of School.

Lynne has the innovative vision and collaborative spirit to guide Baldwin into the future,” said Baldwin Board of Trustees Chair Patricia Weiser (P ’22, ’24). “Throughout her career in education, Lynne has demonstrated an ability to provide visionary leadership, seek and achieve excellence and develop strong and lasting relationships within her school community. She is a confident and hard-working leader with a deep sense of integrity and a lifelong love of learning.” 
 
“Baldwin’s focus on how girls learn best and what girls need to thrive is directly in line with my beliefs and practices as an educator. I am a strong believer in the power of the student voice in guiding their learning and educational experience, especially in young women. Developing confidence in girls is a key indicator of their future success, which we know looks different for each and every girl,” said Ms. Macziewski. “I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to work with Baldwin’s remarkable faculty and staff to continue to provide the best in girls’ education for generations of girls to come.”
 
Search Committee Co-chairs and Board of Trustees members Rachel Gerstenhaber Stern ’83 and Martha Ortiz (P ’16) together noted, "Ms. Macziewski is a recognized educator who has demonstrated in-depth, comprehensive leadership and has a proven track record of empathy and support of students, their families, faculty and staff.”
 
During her tenure at Girls Preparatory School and The Blake School, Ms. Macziewski has held various leadership positions including Associate Head of School, Head of Middle School, Middle School Assistant Director and Pre-K – Grade 12 Science Department Chair. She has been directly involved with the hiring and retention of senior school administrators, faculty and staff, strategy development and implementation, innovative program creation, admission and retention of students and myriad other facets of school life and leadership.
 
Ms. Macziewski, a native of Minnesota, holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, and two separate master’s degrees from the University of St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota. She holds a certificate in school management and leadership from Harvard University. Her awards include The Blake School’s Juliet Nelson Award for Outstanding Teaching and Advising and the Youth Service of America’s Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators. She spoke most recently on Equitable Grading in the Era of Transparency at the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools. She and her husband, Nathan, and two teenage children, Grace and Jack, will relocate to Bryn Mawr in the summer of 2023.
